Big Meadows Ranch Conservation Easement Secured
Over the
past five years, Western Land Group has been assisting the Colorado
Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust in raising funds for and closing the
purchase of conservation easements in the Saguache Creek Corridor on the western
edge of the San Luis Valley. On
April 8, 2005, CCALT closed on the purchase of the 905-acre Big Meadows
Conservation Easement. This
easement, which is the fourth purchased conservation easement in the Saguache
Creek corridor, also happens to be the 100th easement in CCALT’s
10-year history. The purchase was
enabled with funds granted by Great Outdoors Colorado, the Natural Resource
Conservation Service’s Farm and Ranchland Protection Program, and the Colorado
Division of Wildlife’s San Luis Valley Habitat Partnership Program.
Two subsequent phases of this 2,900 acre easement purchase are
anticipated to close in 2006 and 2007. Please
